“Older” Newborn Sessions are aimed at parents who feel like they may have missed the boat if they don’t get baby photographed in those first few weeks. Yes, the earlier the better is ideal so they are super sleepy and still in that curly stage. But it is not always possible for many reasons and that shouldn’t mean you can’t still get gorgeous newborn photos.
I get many clients who come to me when baby is over 6 weeks of age, and I was tired of turning them away… so I decided to offer a “Older Newborn Session”. They are similar to my newborn sessions, however the poses usually vary. Babies above 4-6 weeks old have spent a lot more time out of the womb, so have got used to not being in tight curled up positions. They are also becoming more alert…which means posing them can be quite difficult.
So what are the reasons for parents needing to come in later with baby?
- Baby was born early and needs to be in SCBU for a time – this is no issue at all, we will just schedule the time once baby is out of hospital. This is especially common with multiples and you will see multiples of varying ages in this blog post.
- Asian and Indian families (and no doubt other cultures) have around four to five weeks at home being looked after by family members and not able to leave the home. I think this is an amazing tradition and so good for the parents so I’m very happy to schedule the shoot for when baby is over 4-5 weeks old.
- If my schedule is full and I’m unable to fit them in for a week or two. I have been so pleased when clients are more than happy to wait to get photos with me during my busy times. And I can still get some lovely results for them at any age.
And as a huge positive for photos of slightly older babies, you usually get lots of lovely eye open shots as well.
So please if you are considering having photos and worried about having to get them in those first 4 weeks please don’t fear.
Do I still recommend pre-booking before baby is born? Yes I do. The reason being is that the communication between us has started and you can feel free to get in touch anytime to let me know baby has arrived and we can book the session date. We might book the session date for when baby is 5 weeks old, but at least I know then to keep that date for you and you know you have a session date booked and sorted.
How long will the session last?
With older babies, if baby is adamant they will not sleep during the session, then we will get lots of lovely awake shots and the session time will usually be around 1-2 hours.
How much does it cost?
There is a non-refundable session fee of £50 to pay upon booking, this retainer payment secures your session date and the post processing of your images, it does not include any images.
You then have a choice of Collections (see below). The £50 session fee that you pay upon booking will be deducted off your chosen collection, and the remaining balance will be due 24 hours before your session date.
At the end of your session, we will schedule your Viewing & Ordering Appointment, where you will have the option to upgrade your chosen Collection if you wish. This upgrade will need to be paid for at the Viewing & Ordering Appointment. If you have your heart set and have chosen the Digital Collection from the beginning, then you will not need to attend a Viewing & Ordering Appointment, as I will just present you with your full gallery of images on a beautiful usb within 7-14 days.
At your appointment you will view your entire gallery on a beautiful slideshow. You can comfortably sit and go through your images to select your favourites and discuss any wall art requirements if you wish. All products and images chosen are to be purchased at this time. I have an à la carte product menu where you can choose additional items.
Further to your chosen collection, products may be purchased from my product menu.
I just cannot wait to get into my office and start editing your images, so my turnaround is pretty fast! I aim to have a sneak peek available for you within 48 hours, and the rest of your gallery finished and ready for your Viewing Appointment withing 7-10 days. I pride myself on delivering the perfect image to you, and that means the editing takes time, especially since most babies have their usual skin issues (milk spots, flaky skin, uneven skin tones etc)
