“Older” Newborn Sessions are aimed at parents who feel like they may have missed the boat if they don’t get baby photographed in those first few weeks.  Yes, the earlier the better is ideal so they are super sleepy and still in that curly stage.  But it is not always possible for many reasons and that shouldn’t mean you can’t still get gorgeous newborn photos.

I get many clients who come to me when baby is over 6 weeks of age, and I was tired of turning them away… so I decided to offer a “Older Newborn Session”.  They are similar to my newborn sessions, however the poses usually vary.  Babies above 4-6 weeks old have spent a lot more time out of the womb, so have got used to not being in tight curled up positions.  They are also becoming more alert…which means posing them can be quite difficult.

So what are the reasons for parents needing to come in later with baby?

  1. Baby was born early and needs to be in SCBU for a time – this is no issue at all, we will just schedule the time once baby is out of hospital.  This is especially common with multiples and you will see multiples of varying ages in this blog post.
  2. Asian and Indian families (and no doubt other cultures) have around four to five weeks at home being looked after by family members and not able to leave the home.  I think this is an amazing tradition and so good for the parents so I’m very happy to schedule the shoot for when baby is over 4-5 weeks old.
  3. If my schedule is full and I’m unable to fit them in for a week or two.  I have been so pleased when clients are more than happy to wait to get photos with me during my busy times.  And I can still get some lovely results for them at any age.

And as a huge positive for photos of slightly older babies, you usually get lots of lovely eye open shots as well.

So please if you are considering having photos and worried about having to get them in those first 4 weeks please don’t fear.

Do I still recommend pre-booking before baby is born? Yes I do.  The reason being is that I can usually guarantee you a session date, whereas if you come to me once baby has been born, I may not be able to fit you in.

How long will the session last?

With older babies, if baby is adamant they will not sleep during the session, then we will get lots of lovely awake shots and the session time will usually be around 1-2 hours.

How much does it cost?

There is a retainer of £99 to pay upon booking, this payment secures your session date and the retouching of your images, it does not include any images.  Then choose a package (below).  The remaining balance is to be paid 7 days before your session date.

I will invite you back to the studio 1-2 weeks after your session for a Viewing & Ordering Appointment where you will view your entire gallery as a slideshow on my large 4k high resolution screen.  Please make sure all decision makers attend your Viewing & Ordering appointment, so you are very welcome to invite grandparents to attend the viewing.  ** Important Information – After you have seen your images, if you wish to upgrade your package, or order any products then this will need to be paid for at the Viewing & Ordering Appointment.  I accept all major credit and debit cards, and also offer payment plans if requested, with a percentage of the order to be paid as a deposit at the Viewing & Ordering Appointment.  If you have your heart set and have chosen to purchase your entire gallery (The Grande Digital Collection) from the beginning, then you will not need to attend a Viewing & Ordering Appointment if you wish not to, as I will just present you with your full gallery of images on a beautiful usb within 7-21 days.
